Jan 15, 2010 - Mar 5, 2010 This exhibition features a varied selection of intricate prints which chronicle Zagar's life from his time as a young artist at New York City's renowned Pratt Institute through his marriage, the development of his children, and birth of his grandchildren. Prints created during his travels to Peru and India will also be included. Mar 19, 2010 - Apr 19, 2010 6:00pm In partnership with the Tile Heritage Foundation, PMG will host an art exhibition of over 60 national tile and mosaic artworks. Juried by internationally-recognized artist and art historian Susan Tunick, Tell-Tale Tiles & Fractured Fantasies features narrative tiles in the tradition of local tile artists Henry Chapman Mercer and Isaiah Zagar. A lecture and performance, as well as two workshops and receptions will accompany the TTTFF exhibition. PMG is available for private events! Enjoy a guided interpretive tour through the PMG main site and nearby mosaiced properties. Topics include Zagar's mosaic techniques and influences, the material used in the mosaics (with a particular focus on tiles and global folk art), the narratives behind his iconography and images, and the history of South Street and Philadelphia's Magic Gardens. Join us at 1020 South Street every Saturday and Sunday, starting in April, for an hour-long neighborhood tour. Led by a trained Philadelphia's Magic Gardens interpreter, you'll learn detailed information about Zagar's technique along with the personal and community stories depicted in his large, shimmering murals.
