On Friday, May 31st, Lance Pawling will be emceeing A Merkin Dream Theater, a cabaret soiree at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens. A cavalcade of stars, freaks and geeks will explore the theme of fantasy in the magical space provided by Isaiah Zagar’s mosaics. The event will feature such local luminaries as Alejandro Morales, Messapotamia Lefae, Miss Mary Wanna, Rough RydeHer, Phraulein Philth, and Wurli (with his Ragtag Vintage Orchestra).

Lance Pawling, appearing as Alaya Richmin, has been hosting various events at PMG for years and looks forward to bringing collaborators from Philadelphia’s art and music scenes to an event that promises something for everyone. The audience will be whisked away on a two-hour drag and burlesque adventure, featuring live music, sketch comedy, interplanetary misadventures, and freegan puppets. Twilight in the Gardens is held every fourth Friday of the month from April-October at Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens. Each one of these special evenings feature a unique array of arts experiences paired with a live musical performance.  These one-of-a-kind events also give visitors the chance to learn more about PMG through fun, casual mini-tours of the space and to view the temporary exhibitions hanging in our galleries. All Twilight in the Gardens evenings are BYOBB (Bring Your Own Booze and Blanket) but drinks will also be available with drink tickets.  Reservations are not required - just show up and have a good time!

May's Twilight in the Gardens explores how stories, cultures and teachings have been passed down through the ages. Our musical guest, The Bailey Hounds, will fill the gardens with grit, wisdom, melancholia and melody with their self-dubbed style "cemetery blues.” The Bailey Hound’s music embodies the spirit of the Appalachian Mountains where stories have been passed down through music and dance for generations. Our featured artist, Katharyn Coleman, will teach guests the history of passing down stories through prayer flags, a tradition than originated in south Asia over a thousand years ago. Participants are invited to record their own story by creating a prayer flag to take home. Narragansett brewing company will be sponsoring this event with their delicious brews.

Check out our Twilight in the Gardens page for more information!
